A comprehensive introduction to ceramics practice
with meditation

£265    |    Sept-June    |    Monday and Tuesday   |    6.30 - 9pm

Please note that our six week courses will resume from September 9th.  In the meantime if you are keen to get going on your ceramics journey, we wholeheartedly recommend the Wheel Throwing Summer school from June 4th to Sept 11th, or our Taster, Wheel Throwing or Clay Social sessions

Our Six Week Course will not only give you a kick start in your ceramics journey, we also offer you a new way of accessing your innate capacity for creative wellbeing: Each session begins with a meditation and poem to relax our body and mind so that we can switch from doing to being mode and more easily enter into creative Flow

Given its reliance on specialist knowledge and equipment, ceramic practice can feel daunting.

Ceramic artist and founder of Dalston Clay, Barnaby Hosking has formulated this course to simplify ceramics process and make it feel natural and joyful: a regular part of your daily life much like exercise or relaxation.

This course is most suitable for beginners but can also be used as a refresher or for further learning after previous beginners courses or prior experience with ceramics. This is a general ceramics course, so you will learn the basics of hand building and wheel throwing. However if you wish to focus on one or the other from the beginning, you are free to do so.

Your teacher

Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2003, Barnaby has exhibited his artwork internationally. Working across video installation, sculpture, painting, and printmaking, his practice explores our connection with nature. Following the pandemic, he founded Dalston Clay with the hope that others might experience the transformative benefits of creativity in their own lives.

Trained in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), Barnaby seeks to illuminate the holistic relationship between creativity, body, and mind. He divides his time between Dalston and North Norfolk, approaching his artistic practice with deep appreciation and a generous spirit.
