As a CIC social enterprise, affordability and community are central to what we offer. Our WE/TECH programme is an exchange of time, but it's also an investment in you. You give the studio some of your time and get studio time back, and along the way we train you: how a busy studio actually runs, how work moves through the kilns, how glazes are mixed and maintained, and how to look after your own practice alongside everyone else's. Many people arrive wanting cheaper studio access and leave with skills they use for the rest of their making life.
Work Exchange (WE)
A three-hour session helping to look after the studio: welcoming people, collections, keeping the space ready and clay reclaim. Each shift earns you a three-hour Drop-In, to use within six months. No ceramics experience needed, just a willingness to take part.
Technician (TECH)
A six-hour session processing students and members' work from greenware to glaze: glazing, glaze making, firing and leading the WE on the day. In return you get twelve hours of studio time that week. It's a committed role for aspiring makers and the only role that operates the kilns.
Getting involved

As a CIC and Social Enterprise, it is our intention to make Dalston Clay a studio that is available to everyone, regardless of financial circumstance. While we need to function as a business, we never want money to be the reason why someone can't benefit from what we've built. If you truly can't afford the full cost of our offerings, we invite you to contact us to discuss your situation and we will endeavour to sort something out.
